If you want an Amazfit for bouldering, the Amazfit Active 3 Premium is the best pick for most people. According to Amazfit, it weighs just 38 g without the strap, has sapphire glass and lasts up to 12 days. If you want a tough outdoor watch, get the T-Rex 3 Pro, ideally in 44 mm. The Balance 3 is the pick if the watch also needs to look good at the office.
The good news first: almost every current Amazfit watch has its own "Bouldering" workout mode. The honest catch: we couldn't find anything from Amazfit saying this mode saves individual problems with a grade and a result. More on that below.

What does an Amazfit track when you boulder?
Amazfit introduced the "Bouldering" and "Indoor Rock Climbing" modes with Zepp OS 3.5. In its update notes for the GTR 4 from August 2024, Amazfit names both modes explicitly as new sports.
On current models, "Bouldering" appears in the list of indoor workouts on each Amazfit product page. We checked this in 2026 for every watch in this guide:
- Bouldering and Indoor Rock Climbing: Active 3 Premium, Balance 3, T-Rex 3 Pro, T-Rex Ultra 2, Active Max, Cheetah 2 Pro, plus the Balance 2, Balance Ultra and T-Rex 3.
- Bouldering only: Bip Max. "Indoor Rock Climbing" is missing from its list.
Amazfit doesn't describe on those pages what the mode actually records. We found no statement that the watch saves individual problems, grades, attempts or sends. So expect a workout that's filed neatly as bouldering in the Zepp app, with the data the watch records for any workout, such as heart rate and duration. That's not enough for a real logbook.
What matters on the wall
Glass
When you boulder, your wrist brushes holds, volumes and the wall itself. Sapphire is harder than regular glass and scratches much less easily. According to the spec sheets, the Active 3 Premium, Balance 3, T-Rex 3 Pro, T-Rex Ultra 2 and Cheetah 2 Pro have sapphire glass. The Active Max has strengthened glass and the Bip Max tempered glass, both with an anti-fingerprint coating.
Case and weight
Lighter is almost always better on the wall. A heavy watch tugs at your wrist on overhangs and digs in when you mantle. In this guide, the range goes from 38 g (Active 3 Premium, without strap) to 89.2 g (T-Rex Ultra 2, with strap).
Band
Amazfit ships most models with a silicone strap and a classic pin buckle. Widths are 20, 22 or 26 mm depending on the model, so replacements are easy to find. For the gym, a band you can cinch quickly is worth it, so the watch doesn't slide when you hang.

Watch on the wall: wear it or take it off?
That's your call, but a few simple rules help:
- Wear it snug. A loose watch slides around and bangs into holds.
- Wear it on the less loaded arm if you notice it getting in the way on certain moves.
- Take it off when it's in the way, for example on jams or undercling moves. Your problem matters more than your stats.
- Wipe off chalk before it builds up on the sensor or in the buttons.
What no Amazfit can do for bouldering
An Amazfit doesn't know which color or tape your gym uses for which grade. From everything we found, it doesn't recognize a flash, doesn't keep track of projects and doesn't count attempts per problem. For that, you need a logbook.
That's exactly what we're building with Cruxbook. You set up your gym with its colors, tapes or numbers, then at the wall you tap the color and then attempt or top. Cruxbook works out flashes on its own, keeps open problems as projects, and shows you volume, flash rate and a pyramid per gym. Today Cruxbook runs in the browser and on your phone. An Amazfit app is on our list, but not available yet.
FAQ
Does every Amazfit have the bouldering mode?
Every current model in this guide has it, according to its Amazfit product page. The Bip Max has Bouldering but not Indoor Rock Climbing. For older models, it depends on whether they got Zepp OS 3.5 or later.
Does the bouldering mode save grades and sends?
Amazfit's documentation doesn't say so. We found no statement that the watch records individual problems with a grade or a result.
What's the difference between Bouldering and Indoor Rock Climbing?
Amazfit lists them as separate modes. Bouldering is climbing without a rope on low walls, Indoor Rock Climbing is roped climbing on the gym's tall walls. That way you can keep your sessions apart in the Zepp app.
Does sapphire glass matter for bouldering?
It helps. Sapphire is harder than regular glass and scratches less easily when you brush the wall or a hold. It isn't indestructible, though, and a hard knock can still crack it.
Can I log in Cruxbook from my Amazfit?
Not yet. Cruxbook runs in the browser and on your phone today. An Amazfit app is planned for later. Until then, you tap on your phone at the wall.
