If you want a Huawei watch for bouldering, the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro is the best pick for most people. According to Huawei, it weighs about 30 g, has sapphire glass and a titanium bezel, and lasts up to 7 days. If you want a tougher, round watch with a long battery, get the Watch GT 7 Pro. If a dedicated climbing workout mode matters to you, the Watch GT 6 Pro is the safe bet, because Huawei explicitly confirms its "Rock Climbing" mode.
An honest note up front: Huawei doesn't have a bouldering profile that saves each problem with a grade and a result. What these watches record when you climb, and where the gap is, is covered below.

What does a Huawei watch track when you boulder?
In a support table for the GT series, Huawei lists a "Rock Climbing" workout mode in the "X-games" category. The table has columns for the GT 6, GT 6 Pro, GT 4 and GT 5, GT 5 Pro, GT 3 and GT Cyber, GT Runner and GT 3 Pro, and "Rock Climbing" is ticked for all of them.
Huawei doesn't describe there what the mode actually records. We didn't find a mode made for bouldering or indoor climbing anywhere in Huawei's documentation. For the newer GT 7, GT 7 Pro, Watch 6, Watch Fit 5 Pro and Watch Ultimate 2, Huawei's product and spec pages don't mention climbing at all. The GT 7 and GT 7 Pro pages talk about more than 110 workout modes, but "climb" there only refers to hills on the bike. If you want climbing in the menu, check the model's workout list before you buy or ask in the store.
What you get either way: a workout with heart rate, duration and calories in the Huawei Health app. No Huawei watch saves individual problems, grades, attempts or sends.
What matters on the wall
Glass
When you boulder, your wrist brushes holds, volumes and the wall itself. Sapphire is harder than regular glass and scratches much less easily. Huawei lists sapphire glass for the Watch Fit 5 Pro, GT 7 Pro, GT 6 Pro, Watch 6 and Watch Ultimate 2. For the regular GT 7, the pages we checked don't mention sapphire.
Case and weight
Lighter is almost always better on the wall. A heavy watch tugs at your wrist on overhangs and digs in when you mantle. The range at Huawei is wide: the Watch Fit 5 Pro weighs about 30.4 g according to Huawei, the Watch Ultimate 2 about 80.5 g, both without the strap.
Band
Huawei ships many models with its EasyCross fluoroelastomer strap. According to the spec sheet, the Watch Fit 5 Pro also comes in a version with a nylon strap. What matters most is that you can cinch the strap quickly, so the watch doesn't slide when you hang and knock into holds.

5. Huawei Watch 6: The smartwatch option
The Watch 6 arrived in September 2026 (Tech Advisor). According to the spec sheet, it comes in 42 mm (about 38 g, aluminum front case) and 46 mm (about 60 g, stainless steel front case). It has sapphire glass, is water resistant to 5 ATM and rated IP69. The battery is short: in standard mode, Huawei quotes 3 days (42 mm) or 4.5 days (46 mm) with typical use.
Good for: anyone who cares more about smartwatch features than battery life.

6. Huawei Watch Ultimate 2: As tough as it gets, but heavy
According to the spec sheet, the Watch Ultimate 2 has a zirconium-based liquid metal case with a ceramic back, and the product page adds a ceramic bezel and sapphire glass. It's water resistant to 20 ATM and rated for diving down to 150 m. At about 80.5 g without the strap, it's the heaviest watch in this guide.
For bouldering, that's too much watch. It makes sense if you dive or spend a lot of time outdoors and need the watch to survive anything.

Watch on the wall: wear it or take it off?
That's your call, but a few simple rules help:
- Wear it snug. A loose watch slides around and bangs into holds.
- Wear it on the less loaded arm if you notice it getting in the way on certain moves.
- Take it off when it's in the way, for example on jams or undercling moves. Your problem matters more than your stats.
- Wipe off chalk before it builds up on the sensor or in the buttons.
What no Huawei watch can do for bouldering
A Huawei watch doesn't know which color or tape your gym uses for which grade. It doesn't recognize a flash, it doesn't keep track of projects, and it doesn't count attempts per problem. For that, you need a logbook.
That's exactly what we're building with Cruxbook. You set up your gym with its colors, tapes or numbers, then at the wall you tap the color and then attempt or top. Cruxbook works out flashes on its own, keeps open problems as projects, and shows you volume, flash rate and a pyramid per gym. Today Cruxbook runs in the browser and on your phone. A Huawei app is on our list, but not available yet.
FAQ
Does Huawei have a bouldering profile?
No. Huawei lists a "Rock Climbing" mode for the GT series, but no dedicated bouldering profile. No Huawei watch saves grades, attempts or sends.
Do newer models like the GT 7 have the climbing mode?
We couldn't find confirmation in Huawei's documentation. The support table with "Rock Climbing" covers the GT 6, GT 6 Pro and older GT models. For newer models, check the workout list before you buy.
Does sapphire glass matter for bouldering?
It helps. Sapphire is harder than regular glass and scratches less easily when you brush the wall or a hold. It isn't indestructible, though, and a hard knock can still crack it.
Which Huawei is the lightest?
Among the models in this guide, the Watch Fit 5 Pro at about 30.4 g without the strap. According to Huawei, the regular Watch Fit 5 is even lighter at about 27 g, but its spec sheet doesn't list sapphire glass.
Can I log in Cruxbook from my Huawei watch?
Not yet. Cruxbook runs in the browser and on your phone today. A Huawei app is planned for later. Until then, you tap on your phone at the wall.
